True M minus Null Hypothesis divided by the standard deviation
Effect size tells us how many standard deviations apart are the null hypothesis and the truth.
The further apart they are, the larger the effect size and the more power you have.
An effect size of .25 means that the truth is one quarter of a standard deviation away from the null hypothesis.
